There are a few things you'll need to be aware of in order to take part in IASH discussions via email.
To receive forum messages by email...
You can opt to receive posts by email whenever anyone posts a message to one of our discussion areas.
To subscribe to forum emails, click the the forum's "subscribe to this forum" check box. It's at the top of the forum and looks like this . . .
Many discussion forums are email enabled (e) which means you can send your reply over email, also.
Note: Some IASH committee forums are "auto subscribed." In that case, you won't need to select the subscribe check box.
To reply to an email enabled topic...
1 - Include the end-of-message tag at the end of your reply:
When you reply to a post by email, place #end# right after your message and before any message history.
We want people to be able to review the forum threads as easily as possible and repetitious history in each and every post would make the threads difficult to follow. The #end# tag tells the server where your message ends. Everything after that will be left off.
It is perfectly fine to quote other people's entire sentences, or even a paragraph, within the body of your reply. We encourage this practice so others will know exactly what your reply refers to.
2 - Keep the message ID.
When a forum is capable of email responses, you'll see a message ID number in the subject line of each post that you receive by email.
The message ID will look something like this: [00000000:00000000]
When you reply to a post, be sure the message ID remains in your subject line. This is how the server keeps track of which topic thread you are responding to.
At any time you can view the whole conversation from beginning to end. To view the complete message thread, visit the discussion area online or click the link in one of the forum emails.
To start a new thread...
To start a brand new topic, simply address an email to the forum's email address. No message ID or end tag is required to begin a new topic.
