What Works in Therapy?
From Research to Everyday Practice

I will share my journey through the complex research to the beautiful simplicity when applied to everyday healing. A summary of the research shows that virtually all of the data finds that various treatment approaches achieve roughly equivalent results. The evidence makes clear that the difference between the various models can not account for the effectiveness of treatment. Rather, the mountain of evidence makes it clear that the similarities rather than the differences between models account for the effectiveness of psychotherapy. The question is what similarities account for success?

I will answer that question with an overview of the Common Factors. They can significant expand our understanding of the therapeutic process and the possibilities of improving effectiveness.

Then a look at how the research is being translated to clinical work. There are some simple, straightforward ways to elicit “real time” feedback to inform and modify the therapist’s work. The research has demonstrated that using client based feedback increases effectiveness by an incredible 65%.

I have adapted a simple feedback tool for my work as an Executive Coach in the corporate world. The tool highlights and accelerates the path to greater effectiveness.
