Using the Meta-Program in
Police Officer Screening

The meta–program is a versatile NLP resource with many applications. This presentation features the meta–program as incorporated into police officer selection with the Sheridan (Wyoming) Police Department. The project began with screening all of the officers on the force and all potential candidates with the intent of developing a database for officer selection. The developed meta–program model, individualized and personalized for the Sheridan Police Department has now become one of the elements included in their selection process. It is used, because of its vitality in offering a “different than the norm” insight into the officers and their capabilities, in addition to the selection of “new hires,” with other management decisions regarding officer utilization.

A participant in this class will learn about the implementation of the meta–program in this setting, the results observed by the presenter and the police department administration, its past and current uses for this police department, and the potential for applications of the meta–program in other work settings.
